Cardinal grape


Cardinal Grape, August Red

The grape Cardinal comes originally from California – USA and was crossed in 1939 by E. Suyder and F. Harmann by hybridizing the varieties “Flame Tokay” and “Alphonse Lavallee“.

After the Second World War it was imported to Europe.

The grape is a premature table grape, ripening already in the first half of August. As soon as it has reached full maturity, it must be harvested immediately.

The grape is large, with side grapes and a cylindrical-conical shape. The berries from the Cardinal grape are very large, roundish-oval and the colour is red-violet. The flesh is crisp, fleshy with a mild, sweet and pleasant taste.
