Mulled wine

When visiting German-speaking countries during the Advent season, it is very likely that you run into a Christmas market with wooden houses, local products, Christmas decorations, sweets and of course the famous mulled wine. But here in South Tyrol and Trentino you can already visit these markets from the end of November. Mainly red wine used for the mulled wine, but also white wine is suitable. In ancient times, the forerunner of this drink was already known.

Recipe:

– 750ml not too dry red wine
– 4 tablespoons sugar
– juice and skin of a small lemon or lemon slices
– 4 cloves
– 3 tablespoons cardamom
– 2 cinnamon sticks
– 2 bay leaves
– 1 star anise

Preparation:

The ingredients are mixed and heated together, but not above 80 degrees, otherwise the alcohol will evaporate. The indicated quantity is sufficient for about 4/5 portions.
